Our Policy Priorities
Strengthen the American Alawite Community’s Political Voice
We work to ensure that issues important to American Alawites receive meaningful consideration in U.S. political life. We support informed civic participation, equal treatment, and the freedom to preserve our community’s religious and cultural heritage. These concerns guide our evaluation and support of candidates for federal office.
Protect Syrian Alawites and Other Vulnerable Communities
We support U.S. policies that address threats facing Syrian Alawites and other communities at risk. Priorities include preventing identity-based violence, protecting civilians from displacement and persecution, and ensuring humanitarian assistance reaches people in need without discrimination.
Accountability and Equal Justice
We support independent investigations into atrocities and human-rights violations, the preservation of evidence, and accountability through credible legal processes. Justice must respect due process and individual responsibility, without collective punishment or selective treatment based on a victim’s or perpetrator’s identity.
Equal Citizenship and Democratic Representation
We support U.S. policies that encourage a credible democratic process in Syria, meaningful political participation for all communities, and enforceable constitutional protections. Equal citizenship requires representative institutions, an independent judiciary, and effective limits on executive power.
Religious Freedom and Freedom of Conscience
We support the freedom to hold, practice, or change one’s beliefs without coercion or discrimination. U.S. policy should promote the protection of religious communities and places of worship, and equal treatment by public institutions regardless of faith.
Women’s Rights and Participation
We support policies that protect women from violence and discrimination and advance their equal participation in political, economic, and civic life, including access to education, employment, and public office.
Decentralized and Inclusive Governance
We support U.S. policies that encourage constitutional arrangements preserving Syria’s territorial unity while giving local communities meaningful authority over local affairs. Such arrangements should strengthen accountable government, fair representation, and equal protection for residents of every background.
Measurable Progress in U.S. Engagement
We support tying U.S. diplomatic engagement and decisions on assistance to governing authorities to verifiable progress in civilian protection, human rights, accountability, and democratic reform. Clear benchmarks and oversight should guide these decisions, while humanitarian relief remains accessible to civilians in need.
